Dr. Brigit van Widenfelt

brigi5Brigit van Widenfelt is a Child Clinical Psychologist, Senior Researcher and Assistant Professor.

She received a PhD in Clinical Psychology in both the USA and Netherlands, and did both dissertations in the area of couples communication and interventions. 

She has worked at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since 1999 where she has developed an expertise in the area of translation and cross-cultural use of psychological measures. She has led and contributed to the Dutch translations of a number of assessment and diagnostic instruments for Dutch children and adolescents, including the SDQ and DAWBA.

She is also specialized in treatment outcome evaluation and set up a study with her colleagues on the prediction of treatment response to CBT for childhood anxiety disorders, introducing a stepped care model to treating this population. Her main area of interest is in internalising disorders, and especially the relationship between family processes, psychopathology and social-emotional development of children and adolescents.

She is currently developing a research program for addressing screening, assessment, and referrals for treatment of child and adolescent mental health problems that present themselves in community settings such as schools and general practitioner offices.
